Second ‘gold chain’ robbery in Miami

Posted on July 21st, 2010 No Comments

Yesterday morning, a man was robbed and shot outside a Northwest Miami-Dade daycare center.  Before shooting the man, the robber demanded he give him the gold chain necklace he was wearing.  Just weeks ago, the Miami-Dade police investigated a similar incident involving the robbery of a gold chain necklace and subsequent shooting.

On Tuesday, a 46-year old man was mowing the lawn outside the It’s a Small World Learning Center when a man approached him, demanding he give him his gold chain necklace, before shooting him several times.  The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and reported to be in stable condition.  Police are searching the area for the man.

In the prior incident, 39-year old Juan Garcia was fixing his truck when a man rode up on a bicycle and grabbed his gold chain necklace.  Garcia was also shot several times but is reported to be in good condition.

Police arrested 22-year old Earl Roberson believing he was involved in at least three robberies, two of which involved snatching gold chains.

Robber’s friend’s parents turn him in

Posted on July 13th, 2010 No Comments

A bank robber in South Florida was turned in by his parents after they recognized him on a bank’s surveillance video.

Andrew Wright was recognized on surveillance video for wearing a pinstripe suit and matching fedora that his friend Michael Jeczalik owned.  Jeczalik’s parents saw the video on the internet and remembered seeing Wright walk out of their house in Jeczalik’s suit.  They put the pieces together after remembering seeing the two boys writing what looked like a bank robbery note just hours before the incident was reported.

Both Wright and Jeczalik were arrested and charged with bank robbery.

Boca Raton man arrested for DUI after accident leaves woman critically injured

50-year old Avery Shawn Hinds was arrested on charges of driving under the influence with serious bodily injury and hit-and run.   At the time of the accident, Hind’s driver’s license had been suspended twelve times and he was driving with an indefinitely suspended license.  He was booked in the Palm Beach County jail on Sunday with a $6,000 bond.

Police reports say that Hinds was driving his 1998 Ford Mustang when he first hit a Chevrolet Malibu and fled onto Yamato Road.  The driver of the Malibu followed him and in his attempts to flee Hinds rear-ended a 1994 Toyota Celica driven by Linda Gandav.  Gandav suffered bleeding on the brain after the accident.  Hinds was taken to West Boca Medical Center for minor face injuries where police officials say he showed signs of being drunk.

Blood test results revealed Hind’s blood alcohol content to be at .172 and .173 after the accident.  The legal limit for BAC in Florida is .08.

After the accident, Hinds stated, “It was road rage.  I was being chased by somebody else … The next thing I know I ran into this lady taking a turn … I’m sorry. That’s all I can say.   It wasn’t done intentionally”.

A man from Deerfield Beach, Florida was arrested earlier this month by the Boca Raton police for a burglary from last October 2009.

Boca Raton police officer Sandra Boonenberg stated, “They’ve become more careful with all the CSI shows and stuff like that. Sometimes we get lucky”.

Flemming was arrested on charges of grant theft and burglary to an unoccupied dwelling.

A third suspect was arrested last Thursday for involvement in the shoot-out with a Boca Raton police officer.

19-year old Robert Alvarez of Greenacres, Florida was the driver of the green Jeep pulled over by Officer Shannon Wendlick on June 8th.  Officials said that as Wendlick approached the Jeep, Alvarez began to back up the vehicle and forcing the officer to move out of the way.  A second suspect, 17-year old Ramon Rosario, then exited the vehicle with a gun and pointed it at Wendlick, who then shot Rosario three times in self-defense.
