The former director of the gay pride organization, Pride South Florida, was arrested on charges of grand theft in the second degree for taking money from Pride’s account for personal uses. Investigations into former treasurer and director Mike Cruz began in February by the Economic Crimes Unit of the Ft. Lauderdale Police Department.
On July 19th, a warrant was issued for Cruz’s arrest after the Broward County State Attorney’s office formally charged him with grand theft for stealing over $40,000 from Pride South Florida. When the amount of money stolen is between $20,000 and $100,000 charges are set as second degree and are punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
