A 24-year-old man was charged with murder in the death of a 7-year-old Florida girl whose body was found in an Orange Park, Fla., landfill two days after she went missing in October, authorities said. Detectives solved the case with witnesses, DNA evidence and statements from the defendant, police said.
Police discovered the girl’s body when they followed nine garbage trucks from her neighborhood to the landfill, picking through them until they discovered the gruesome find.
The man’s roommates kicked him out for stealing, and they alerted police when they discovered child pornography on his computer. The 24-year-old was arrested in Mississippi in February on charges of child pornography in Florida. Authorities noticed the man’s apartment was close to the girl’s house, and detectives began to make the connection.
