A police task force in Jackson County, Florida seized over 58 pounds of marijuana being transported along the interstate in Grand Ridge.
Authorities began investigating the transportation of large amounts of marijuana on Interstate 10 on Tuesday. One of the first vehicles stopped by police, a Ford pickup truck that was driving erratically on the highway, was found to be transporting drugs. Police canines alerted officers to the presence of marijuana in a toolbox in the bed of the pickup truck. A search of the vehicle uncovered nine packages of marijuana weighing a total of 58.75 pounds.
The driver of the pickup, 29 year-old Luis Ignacio Lopez Jr., and his two passengers, 25 year-old Javier Ortiz and 31 year-old Marc Salinas, were arrested and charged with trafficking.
