A police task force in Jackson County, Florida seized over 58 pounds of marijuana being transported along the interstate in Grand Ridge.
Authorities began investigating the transportation of large amounts of marijuana on Interstate 10 on Tuesday. One of the first vehicles stopped by police, a Ford pickup truck that was driving erratically on the highway, was found to be transporting drugs. Police canines alerted officers to the presence of marijuana in a toolbox in the bed of the pickup truck. A search of the vehicle uncovered nine packages of marijuana weighing a total of 58.75 pounds.
The driver of the pickup, 29 year-old Luis Ignacio Lopez Jr., and his two passengers, 25 year-old Javier Ortiz and 31 year-old Marc Salinas, were arrested and charged with trafficking.

A man from Palm Harbor, Florida has ben arrested for growing marijuana in his home.
According to a police report from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, narcotics detectives attained a search warrant for the residence of 29 year-old Arion Oz Kedan after receiving a tip that he might be growing marijuana in his home. During the search, detectives say they discovered an elaborate marijuana growing and harvesting system in one of Kedan’s bedrooms.
Kedan was arrested and charged with manufacture of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver.
Police seized 279 grams of marijuana, 62 un-harvested marijuana plants, and $3,263 in cash.

Police in Melbourne, Florida have made an arrest in a shooting that occurred on the 700 block of Tompkins Street Wednesday.
Police have charged 26-year-old Lamar Coaston with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to police, Coaston entered his rental home shortly before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and found someone inside. Melbourne Police Department Cmdr. Ron Bell said a struggle ensued and the suspected intruder was shot in the neck.
Police later identified the injured man as 23-year-old Cesar Rivera of West Melbourne. Rivera was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center and was in stable condition Wednesday.
A recording released by Melbourne police confirms that Coaston called 9-1-1 after the incident.

Boca Raton police are searching for two men who are believed to have attacked a local grandmother, beating her and yelling racial epithets at her as she was walking in a park.
According to police reports, the 65-year-old African American woman was fishing with friends at a local park, when she decided to go use the restroom. On her way there, two men jumped out from behind her and began beating her, slinging racial epithets at her before leaving her for dead.
The woman says that one of her assailants was Caucasian with curly blond hair, while the other was Hispanic and had dark hair. Both are about 20 years of age. Police encourage anyone with any knowledge of the suspects to come forward.
